The board is responsible for the highest level of decision-making and legal authority in the organization. Boards function most effectively when everyone on the board knows what their responsibilities are and what is expected of them. Join us as we identify ways to make board members' lives easier and boards more productive! This session will be of special interest to board members who wish to better understand their role.
In today's world it is increasingly difficult to recruit and maintain a "good" board. To be effective, recruitment must be a part of an annual cycle that also involves orienting and training new board members, and evaluating (formally and informally) board activities. Participants will have the opportunity to identify strategies to recruit, orient and train board members. Discussion about the benefits of building a strong board will be complemented with some practical tools that boards can use.
Is it time to look for allies? For shared resources? Is it possible for two or more to really create synergy? Ah, but there may be risks involved! Who will control who? Will we need to change our organizational structure? How will we know what to do? This session will explore options and the pros and cons of partnering, collaborating and all those other words!
