Presenter:  Shari Hanson, Community Development Officer, Alberta Culture and Community Spirit, Community Development Branch

Grant seeking is a competitive process, and the competition is steadily increasing. The number of charities in Canada grows by an average of 5% per year. In addition, the definition of what constitutes a charity has changed to include schools, hospitals, chambers of commerce, national parks, and the list goes on.

As anyone in sales will tell you, success in sales involves having confidence in yourself and in the organization you represent, understanding every aspect of your product and understanding needs and expectations of potential "buyers". In short, it's not so much about what you're selling as it is about what they're buying. You want to find people and organizations that share your passion and have the capacity and desire to assist you.

This workshop on writing grant proposals will help you begin to seek and apply to grant opportunities and to begin to plan your sales pitch for successful grant applications!
